Book Review: Seven Wonders by Adam Christopher

Like it or not, superheroes work best in visual mediums. Explosive action and elaborate costumes work better when you have moving images or exquisitely crafted panels to rely on. In a novel, you risk getting bogged down in minutiae as you strive for accuracy.

To his credit, Christopher does well to avoid this trap while crafting suitably epic action scenes and a world of vivid heroes.

Where he does fall down is depth. You would expect that trading off on the visual dimension of a superhero story would allow for more to be told. Unfortunately, instead of using this breathing room to delve deeper into the world he’s created, Christopher chooses to bolt on more bits of plot. [continue]
